Inner Dreams Music Structure
Composition
My recent focus has been crafting meditation soundscapes, a genre I’ve long admired for its potential for personal development. My journey led me to delve into the study of brain frequency response, using tools from the Binaural to the Monroe Institute. This research has been instrumental in shaping the musical structures you’ll encounter in this project, adding a layer of intrigue and depth to the compositions.
I used the key of E Maj for the Inner Dreams mediation. The music’s pattern is A, A1, A2, Bridge, A3. This pattern repeats throughout the piece and ends with an outro. The tempo was automated from 40 Bpm and has movement within each pattern.
Let’s dive into the intriguing chord structure of the Pattern of A. It’s a unique blend of F#, B, A, E, A, representing the ii, V, IV, I, IV in the E Major Key. Using B Major in the second Inversion adds a smooth transition between the keys, enhancing the musical experience.
The pattern sequence, a key element in this composition, concludes on A3 and seamlessly restarts at A1. As you can see in the lead sheet above, this strategic sequence begins its end of phrasing at Bar 35 and gracefully continues at Bar 37, guiding the listener through a meditative journey.
The bridge, found in bar 17, includes additional melodic phrases. As you can see, they were composed of whole notes, which are emphasized with the use of pad-sounding instruments. The phrase begins on the D# and ends on the
F#, in the key of Emaj.
Instruments
Even though the composition is reasonably straightforward, the real magic lies in the choices of the sounds and how they are layered. In this sequence, I choose to layer it with five different instruments.
For the first layer, using the composition, I wanted a pulsating pad that moves, so the one that worked was using the Jup-8 V from Arturia, selecting the pre-set of the TMH pad.
I layered the pad with a section pad from Nuklear. However, I added a Midi Arp in this sequence, which played the pad as an Arpeggio. The thickness of the pad almost has a Rhodes piano tone; however, it has a timbre of a pad that resonates in the mid-range.
Using the Logic ARP is a convenient tool that adds extra movement to the texture of the melody.
The next layer to add is a high-end frequency pad that helps with the soundscape’s harmonic qualities. I used the Arturia SQ 80 V and selected the Liquid Thoughts preset, which has a slow build and motion that works well with Jupiter 8’s first layer.
For the bridge section, I chose a bell sound. Pentabell is the patch’s name; it’s a bell sound with an extended-release that works well with all the notes in the phrase. The movement of the texture adds to the context of the soundscape.
I layered the bridge sound with this alchemy Sci-fi tone, which layered with the bell sound. This added texture helps bring more color to the melody lines.
Each instrument has EQs and compression. I also added additional harmonics, such as saturations and delays.
For example, on the Jupiter TMH pad, I added movement with a dotted delay. This helped the sound take up more space and blend with the other instruments.
Binaural
To complete the meditation, I extended the music for 30 minutes and added tones generated by the SBaGen. The tone is a low-frequency Binaural beat designed by the Monroe Institute. It ties all the elements together and helps create a brain frequency response that helps promote brain activity. In addition to this sound, I added subliminal Affirmations I recorded within Audacity within the Nyquist frequency. I recorded messages that played throughout the meditation.
I used a list of affirmations that lasted around eight minutes. Then, I used a unique code I created to convert the recordings to the required frequency range to reach the subconscious mind. Below is a listing of some affirmations embedded within the mediation.
Affirmations (short version):
You are world-class
You are strong
You are incredibly irresistibly attractive
Your words move worlds
You are the most successful business person in your chosen industries
You are wise.
You are powerful.
You are a winner.
You are royalty.
God is your father and your strength.
You lean not to your understanding
You inspire the world with your works
You fly over challenges.
